This is an oldie-but-a-goldie. Michio Kaku (astro physicist) talks about the devastating effects of solar flares on our infrastructure today. A huge solar storm occured back in 1859 and shut down the entire eastern coast. Today we are more vulnerable. We have satellites that would be destroyed and transformers would burn and short out.
